Culture First is a global community united by the belief that a better world of work is possible. Within this community, the Mental Health and Neurodiversity at Work chapter welcomes those seeking understanding and support in their unique journeys as professionals navigating mental health challenges or neurodiversity.
We recognize and embrace the complexities of mental health and neurodiversity in the workforce. Did you know that the World Health Organization estimates 1 in 8 people globally live with a mental disorder? Additionally, studies suggest 10 to 20% of people may be neurodivergent, experiencing the world through different lenses. You are not alone.
Our mission is to empower you to thrive in your career by providing:
In this space, we share experiences, offer mutual support, and learn strategies to navigate workplace challenges together. Whether you find support through therapy, reading, human resources, or our community, we're here to help each other succeed.
Join us in creating a more inclusive and supportive work environment. Together, we're proving that a Culture First approach can make a real difference in our lives.

Stephanie's Why
Why did I want to start this chapter?
Throughout my career, I've heard feedback like "You're doing it the wrong way," "Your time management is poor," or "You don't communicate the way we want." Historically, these comments have triggered a shame spiral for me, leaving me wondering, "Why can't my brain just be normal?" This internal struggle can be an incredibly lonely and isolating journey.
I've often wished for a professional community that understands and experiences similar challenges with mental health issues and/or neurodivergence in the workplace. When I'm in the midst of a mental health crisis or when my brain is in such disarray that even basic decisions become overwhelming, it's excruciatingly difficult to find the words to advocate for myself and my needs.
I believe there has to be a better way to support people who are struggling with mental health and/or neurodivergence in the workplace. That's why I want to build the community I needed—and continue to need. Together, we can support one another by sharing our experiences, which can be incredibly validating and affirming. We can also exchange tips, tricks, and resources for navigating the unique challenges of our divergent minds.
By creating this chapter, I hope to foster a space where we can collectively grow, learn, and thrive in our professional lives, despite—and sometimes because of—our unique neurological and mental health experiences.
